Controversy:

1. 4/13/08 "Net Neutrality" controversy - Net neutrality is the principle that all data is treated equal during transmission and has been a founding principle of the internet, making it possible for websites to compete on a level playing field1. CEO Neil Berkett described the principle as a "load of bollocks" and that Virgin is doing deals with partner companies who pay to speed up user connecitons to their websites - leading figures on the internet called for a boycott of Virgin Media internet services2, 3. On 4/15/08, a Virgin Media spokesperson said the company did not intend to hinder access to content providers who do not pay; Virgin said they could offer content providers deals to upgrade their provisioning if they want to ensure best access to broadband subscirbers - something the BBC already does4.
