Functioning solar power station in Spain. The European Renewables Directive targets 20% of energy to be delivered from renewable sources by 2020. To show its commitment, the Spanish government set its own interim target of 12% by 2012. With 988 MW electricity already generated by solar power plants, Spain accounts for over 30% of the European solar production, second only to Germany. With the highest irradiance levels in Europe and some of the World leading solar technology companies, Spains future solar capacity is enormous.
